One dead following two-vehicle collision west of Vermilion

A 78-year-old woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday.

At about 3:20 p.m., Vermilion RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 16 at Range Road 70.

After a preliminary investigation, it is believed an SUV was travelling north on Range Road 70 and was crossing Highway 16 when it collided with a westbound car.

The adult driver and a youth passenger of the SUV did not sustain any injuries. The 78-year-old woman from Mannville who was driving the car was transported to an Edmonton hospital by emergency medical services. She had serious, life-threatening injuries and died in hospital.

Police continue to investigate and will not be releasing the name of the woman.

Vermilion is about 194 kilometres east of Edmonton.
