Edmonton’s largest indoor amusement park will reopen next week after being closed for nearly seven months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

West Edmonton Mall said Friday that Galaxyland will resume operations on Oct. 8 following its March closure. More than 50 per cent of the rides will be open including the carousel, the Cosmic Spinner, bumper cars, the Galaxy Orbiter rollercoaster, Dragon Wagon and Lazer Vault. The park’s largest roller coaster, the Mindbender, and the fast-spinning HAVOC will remain closed.

Galaxyland general manager Adam Sikorski said family-friendly rides were chosen to minimize any potential spread of the virus and prevent masks from coming off when rides are in motion. He said he’s excited to be able to open again after the long hiatus.

“It feels longer than (seven months),” Sikorski said. “There’s pent-up demand. We’ve been getting calls for months asking when we’re going to open because the waterpark was allowed to open before us. Kids have been calling because it’s their favourite place in the world and they want to get back and start enjoying the rides.”
