The Edmonton Elks are using a local company, Test n Travel, to provide rapid COVID-19 testing this season.
“It’s actually kind of cool. I grew up in Edmonton so it’s nice to have our Edmonton base, and support getting people to the games again,” said Carmen Charlton, co-founder and clinical director of Test n Travel.
For the rest of this season’s home games, the company is offering the rapid tests for fans at the main gate of Commonwealth Stadium.
“We have been chatting with them (the Elks) as a viable solution for a little bit of time and once they got their games up and running, we thought that we could be very accessible and affordable for people to get their testing done at the Elks games,” said Charlton.
A team of collecting and testing staff, around seven people, was at last night’s game testing fans.
According to Charlton, fans can download an app and get the results of their test sent right to their phone in about 20 minutes.
“Essentially it’s as soon as we have the results, you have them,” said Charlton.
Charlton also went on to say that this service isn’t just for Elks fans, either. Test n Travel arrives at Commonwealth Stadium around three or four hours before the game starts and anyone can get a rapid test done.
“It’s super convenient and affordable … and they can use that in any restaurant or establishment after the game as well, so it’s a good pass for wherever they want to go,” said Charlton.
The cost of the test is $40 on site. Test n Travel was started in early 2020 in order to help with testing for COVID-19 because of the public system being overwhelmed.
