Kev Liang : Every year, the BMO First Art! Competition awards 13 regional winners from across the country, and this year, thanks to the pandemic, it’s in its second virtual iteration. The good news about that is anyone with a screen can check out the winning entry of University of Alberta graduate Kev Liang, a mixed media installation and video he calls Jiā yóu, which takes a day-in-the-life sort of look at the “generational, cultural and philosophical Chinese expectation of continuing blood lineages and gaining prosperity, juxtaposed with the artist’s (second generation Chinese-Canadian) queer and diasporic identity.” Big congrats to Liang, who also won $7,500 for his artwork.

The Feast (2021) : You know with an unnerving title like that, something is going to go awful in this Welsh fantasy horror. Over an evening, a wealthy family gathers for a sumptuous dinner with guests in their ostentatious house in the Welsh mountains. Served by a mysteriously disturbing young woman (Annes Elwy), the assembled party do not realize they are about to eat their last supper. Dinner is served! Directed by Lee Haven Jones, 93 mins, Welsh with subtitles.
