Donny Nathan Meeches, 31, turned himself in to police Friday morning, the day after Edmonton Police Service (EPS) issued a media release identifying him as a suspect in the alleged murder of a 31-year-old woman and issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

Police said Meeches has been charged with second-degree murder, and that both he and the suspect knew each other.

On Sunday at about 8 p.m., EPS received report of an injured woman at a home near 139 Avenue and 35 Street . Police said officers found the injured woman and provided first aid, but she died from her injuries at the scene.

On Thursday, police added, the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office completed an autopsy on the woman’s remains and determined homicide was the cause of death.

Police have withheld the identity of the woman to protect the privacy of her 11-year-old son, who was with her when she died.
