Man dies in hospital after collision with Edmonton LRT train on Wednesday

A 28-year-old man died in hospital on Friday after sustaining serious injuries in a collision with an LRT train earlier this week, police say.

Around 8:20 a.m. on Nov. 24, the victim was driving a red Hyundai Santa Fe when he struck the warning arm of the LRT crossing at 125 Avenue, west of 66 Street. He proceeded through the warning lights and drove onto the railway tracks, where the SUV was struck by a northbound train, according to the Edmonton Police Service.

Police say paramedics treated the driver for serious injuries on scene and transported him to hospital, where he died on Friday.

Police say no charges are pending at this time, but the major collision investigations section continues to investigate the crash.
