EDMONTON — Edmonton is discussing closing “personal service” businesses, like cosmetic shops and massage and body rub parlours, while extending its local state of emergency.
The motion is before the special emergency advisory committee Thursday afternoon.
“Personal service” businesses would include tattoo parlours, salons, barber shops, massage parlours, tanning salons, and body rub parlours.
Services that would be considered essential by the city include grocers and pharmacies, telecom and IT providers, financial services, construction, and businesses involving utility and petroleum supply.
The Thursday afternoon vote will include whether to extend the city’s local emergency declaration until April 3.
Interim City Manager Adam Laughlin is expected to issue an update after the vote. This will be livestreamed on CTVNewsEdmonton.ca.
This is a developing story. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
