A 47-year-old pediatrician in Edmonton has been charged with possession and transmission of child pornography.

The man was arrested by Alberta’s internet child exploitation (ICE) unit Sunday, stemming from an investigation into child pornography he uploaded to the internet in April. Leduc and Edmonton International Airport RCMP officers assisted in the arrest.

A complete investigation was launched in July with forensic analysis of seized computers and electronic devices to follow.

“ICE is encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police or cybertip.ca,” ALERT said in a Wednesday morning news release.

The accused is a child’s doctor in Edmonton, but the investigators have no information to suggest any offences were committed against children under his care. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta have been notified of the charges.

Ghassan Alnaami was released from custody on a number of court-imposed conditions including no contact with anyone under the age of 16 and not to continue employment as a pediatrician, involving a position of trust to people under 16.
