Monday’s afternoon sitting of the legislature was paused after a body was found on the building’s front steps.

Multiple police were on scene and the area around the legislature’s main entrance was cordoned off by police tape just after 4 p.m.

Edmonton Police spokesperson Scott Pattison said the death was deemed non-criminal.

Chamber proceedings were put on hold just after 3:30 p.m. on Monday and will resume at 7:30 p.m.

Postmedia has reached out to the Alberta Sheriff’s Office — which has jurisdiction over the legislature grounds — for comment.

More to come.
