Plumes of smoke and the adjoining smell are wafting over the downtown sky Monday morning as fire crews continue to battle a blaze at an abandoned home.

Six trucks from Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded to the home at 10303-98 Ave. around 4:37 a.m., city spokeswoman Kristi Bland said Monday morning.

The blaze has yet to be called out. Fire crews were assessing if it was safe to go into the building around 6:40 a.m., Bland said about the most recent update she received.

98 Avenue is closed between 103 and 105 Streets and northbound access on 103 Street is also closed as fire crews continue to work in the area.

More to come.
