Watch: Dave Tippett keen to settle into role of Oilers coach

Dave Tippett was hired as head coach by Oilers general manager Ken Holland in late May, replacing Ken Hitchcock, who took over from Todd McLellan early last season.

The Oilers failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the second consecutive season and 12th time in the last 13 seasons, which prompted the firing of McLellan and Chiarelli.

Tippett had been away from coaching for the past two seasons after eight years behind the Arizona Coyotes bench. Before that, was head coach of the Dallas Stars for six years.

Edmonton is the first time he’ll coach in a Canadian market.
