An RCMP officer has been cleared of wrongdoing in a September 2017 fatal shooting on Whitefish Lake First Nation.
A lone officer attended a call of a man walking with a baseball bat early in the evening of Sept. 6, 2017.
The RCMP member met up with the 26 year-old man, and video camera in the marked police car recorded the scene that quickly escalated as the man moved in a threatening manner towards the officer with a knife.
The man was shot twice and died the same day in front of family members who were pleading with the man to drop the knife.
ASIRT executive director Susan Hughson determined the officer used necessary lethal force in the line of duty and committed no offences.
