Watch: Stuck! screenwriting book author Josh Miller lampoons top ten film cliches

Edmonton Screen Industries Office CEO Josh Miller has written a new screenwriting guide, Stuck! Learn to Love Your Screenplay Again, published by the local Brush Education Inc.

Edmonton-born Miller is an accomplished, award-winning writer and executive producer with work going back to the mid ’80s, including a producer credit on Forsaken starring Kiefer and Donald Sutherland.

Miller’s smart and funny guide examines what makes a good feature film script tick, from character to pacing to genre to avoiding cliches, dissecting over 200 classic and contemporary examples of films illustrating his points.

In this Greg Southam video, Miller reads through 10 of his top 100 Things You Would Never Know Without the Movies, a list of well-worn tropes that have transcended into the satirical.

The book launches 7 p.m. Thursday at Audreys Books, 10702 Jasper Ave.
